Ode to Schmutz My friend and companion is gone Though her memory still lingers on So obedient was she And loyal to me A dog of great courage and brawn I will miss my rottweiler, Schmutz How she loved to play in the brook Such an excellent swimmer And what a retriever How I'll miss her playful looks. Though her days were numbered I will always remember How she gave me joy Like a child with a toy I'm thankful for having had her Though they said with her gone comes relief As for now all I feel is much grief It hurts much more than I thought And I wish it would stop But her memory still I will keep How happy she was as I drew her close to me How could she know her final destiny? She cheerfully obeyed As she was taken away Why do I feel like I betrayed her trust in me? I'm so glad her Creator knows and cares How I feel a loss without her near And I know that today Comfort comes as I pray From my eyes He will wipe every tear Ruth Hartmann, June 1, 1998 |

We obtained our first rottweiler, Schmutz Liebling Von Zug, CD, CGC primarily as a pet. We were also introduced
to competitive obedience training and decided to give it a try -
she was a natural and very eager to please. When Ruth trialed her for
her Companion Dog Title (CD) she got it in her first 3 consecutive trials
while also earning a High in Trial. This was very exciting for us as
we were new to the obedience ring ourselves. |
